In no way do I condone pestering a dog in order to make them offer calming signals for you to see. I kissed Kiko on the head in this video to show you something that dogs HATE that is often done to them, not that I want to condone it! ☺
Dogs bite. You should never put your face in a dogs face. Calming signals can be offered when you are standing or sitting, I was very close to Splash at one point in this video because it was hard to fit us in the video screen, and Splash is very comfortable with me being that close to her face. Never lean into a dogs face in order to communicate with them! Its Threatening!

This video is about the secret language of dogs. Some of you might already know about Calming Signals, but the main population that find out about dog training through Television programs might not.

In this video I will show you how you can use your dogs own language to communicate with them. I will also show you how to interpret your dogs language.

Turid Rugaas is an internationally renowned dog trainer who has studied and researched calming signals for over a decade! You can visit her site on calming signals to learn more AND PICK UP ONE OF HER BOOKS AND DVDS on the subject.

http://www.canis.no/rugaas/onearticle.php?artid=1

I also have to say that Turid Rugaas has the best leash walking book out there. My dog pulls-What do I do?

I am eternally grateful to Turid for giving me the ability to be able to talk with my dogs in their own language.

Here are the main calming signals that I like to use with dogs-

1 Soft Eye Blinks
2 Looking Away
3 Lip Licks
4 Yawning

1- you can use calming signals to calm a dog down and tell them “no worries”
2- You can monitor your dog’s calming signals and if they are doing more than normal you can tell your dog is getting more stressed (calming signals are normal and happen all the time)
3- If you pet your dog and they offer CS that is normal, but Imagine this Scenario- a child pets a dog and it offers lots of CS. Then the dog walks away from the child, and the parent brings the child to the dog again, and the dog offers even more CS and walks away to lie down, then the parent brings the child to pet the dog a third time, and finally the dog is so stressed that it growls, or bites. The parent could have read that the dog did not want to be petted by the child more than that first time if they knew about CS.

Part 1 of 2

Introducing, Teaching, and Training Dogs how to use a treadmill.

Paul Pipitone shows you animal behaviorial and training techniques with untrained dogs in real time.

Do not attempt these techniques without consulting a professional.

Most dog training videos include already trained and well balanced dogs. How can you learn by watching a dog that is already trained? My videos include real clients, real dogs with real problems. All of my videos are real time so that you can see how a dog is really rehabilitated.

Typical dog behavior issues include: aggression, biting, excessive barking, dominance, disobedience, and neurotic behavior. Whether you obtain your dog from a reputable breeder or a shelter, proper manners and obedience training are often overlooked, and dogs are soon sent away and in some cases, eventually euthanized. We believe that almost any dog, any breed, at any age can be rehabilitated. Before you give up on your dog, let Dogs Best Friend of Central Florida show you how proper dog training and behavior rehab can give you back the furry pal you always wanted. We are dedicated to helping people and their dogs maintain a healthy, happy relationship.

Hi, my name is Paul Pipitone, and I appreciate you visiting my channel. I want to give you a brief outline of my 20-year background and experience with dogs.

I became interested in dog behavior and obedience when I was a young boy. My family always had dogs, and they were well behaved and mostly small breeds. In my teens, I was drawn to the more powerful and larger breeds like Shepherds, Dobermans, and Rottweilers. In the early 1970s, I bought an AKC registered, 10-week-old Doberman pup and named him Kilo. (Hey, remember, it was the 70s.)

I had heard of a trainer just outside of the city who was supposed to be the best. She was a six-foot tall, red-haired German lady who walked and spoke like a Gestapo Colonel. When I arrived at her training facility for the first time, I got out of my car and was leaning against the trunk. Her house was about 50 yards from the training area. The screen door opened, out rushed four BIG dogs, and they were coming straight for me. I froze. When they were about 10 feet away, she yelled something in German. The two Shepherds circled my car to the left, and the two Dobermans circled to the right. They came together in front of me and sat down to wait for their master. Right then, I knew this was the person I wanted to teach me how to train my dog (preferably in English). When Kilo reached 6 months old, we began training. That summer, I learned much of what I still use today to train and rehabilitate dogs.

The following year, I added a female Doberman named Star and a German Shepherd named Turk to my pack. I joined a Schutzhund club in central Florida and began training with them. Schutzhund is a sport that combines tracking, obedience, and attack training using both verbal and hand commands.

Although I still have great affection for the large breed dogs, my attention and heart were stolen by a 13-pound Havanese several years ago. She was in danger of being euthanized because of a persistent problem with dog aggression. I adopted her and am happy to say that today, she is a happy, healthy 4-year old and walks side-by-side with other dogs every day as a part of my training team.

For over 20 years, I have worked with all different breeds to rehabilitate behavioral and obedience issues, and with their owners to teach them that a happy dog is one with boundaries and a strong, consistent and loving human pack leader.

Thanks for reading about my love for dogs. I hope we have the opportunity to work together someday soon.

Paul
