Michael Ellis school of dog training, thinking of taking some of his courses?

Now from what I understand, he’s one of the best. Has anyone on here taken any of his courses? I was looking into the protection theory and practice.

I’ve been to 3 or 4 Mike Ellis seminars. He’s intelligent, notices little things, funny, and cusses a lot, right up my alley aye?

His protection theory is spot on…I’ve never heard him say anything anybody who works dogs would disagree with (except the fact he’s not all gung-ho with the -push a dog to the limits and if it cracks it was a "bad" dog- theorists).

I’d say take them! I went to more than one of his seminars for a reason! He helped me a ton with targeting and teaching a driving bite.

Allan Ross Dog Training, Bella H. a 9 month Boxer in outgoing Board & Train goes through a Rally Obedience course. I would have liked to video the first time rather than at the end of our session but thanks to Jami for filming. Bella works with Chris in the intermediate class with Chris on Tuesday night. She is improving all the time., Even Mom works with Bella. It is best when the whole family is on the same page. 7/9/2010

What is the best age to take a puppy to dog training courses?

I have a wire haired daschund and we will be taking it to dog training courses. What age is best for us to start taking it to courses?

Well, for me daschunds are the best choice of breed, so well done on that. I also think – judging by everyones answers – that you should start as early as possible. Daschunds really deserve a nice name like Koko. Whatever the name is, make sure it’s not something like Dahpne. I would also recommend a dog training service such as "Lead The Dog". How long did you enroll your dog in training classes?

The majority of people who take level 1 never return for level 2. If you enrolled your dog in obedience classes at what age did you start and how many classes (as in different classes, not weeks of the course) did you enroll in? I really enjoy the classes and would take my dog his whole life if I had the income to support it.

It depends upon the dog and what my goals are.

Some dogs I only took to the basic obedience class. They did well and my only objective at the time was basic obedience. Some dog/handler teams take a little longer and may have to repeat the class a few times until they reach even basic obedience. Sometimes the dog is a little tougher, sometimes the handler needs a little more work. It is not a failer to have to repeat the class. Everyone human & dog learn at a different pace.

My current dog has been in constant classes since age 4 months. She is now 3 years old. But, she is in competition and we need the higher lever of expertise. As long as we are competing, she will be in training class.

Check around your area. Sometimes there are "drop in" classes where you pay just for the night I find this more for agility than obedience. Also, Obedience clubs often have practice nights. Our obedience club is $25 per year. and we have one unofficial training morning where people get together and help each other. No charge. We also have an official practice night where it is $1.00 per night to attend but you have to belong to the club.
